Carol Kennedy

carolkennedy As a parent of three sons, two of whom have special needs -- Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (AgCC) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) -- Carol's "special" education came from multiple disciplines, such as lectures, seminars, conferences, classes, and medical practicums. The most important source, however, has always been other parents who selflessly shared their stories of successes and failures. As a former Fortune 100 corporate recruiter, Carol advocated early in her career on behalf of minority employees who faced employment discrimination based upon their ethnicity. As a benefit analyst, Carol argued forcefully when corporate executives wanted to look into the medical files of particular employees. In retrospect, both these experiences were mere stepping stones on her path towards advocacy, to help individuals whose voices are not being heard.

Advocacy training through Action Planning in Education (APLE) and taking advantage of ongoing educational opportunities, keeps her up to date on information within education and medical fields. For the past 25 years, Carol has been active within community organizations such as The Junior League, The Norwalk Hospital, The Wilton Historical Society, The Voluntary Action Center, The American Cancer Society, The National Order of Disorders of the Corpus Callosum (NODCC), The Wilton PTA, The Wilton Soccer Association and The Wilton Public Schools Parent Advisory Board (PAB). Her most noteworthy job continues to be raising her boys, facing their challenges together and, most importantly, witnessing their growth and ability to advocate on their own behalf.
